ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) General Secretary Salman Akram Raja has said that it was the right of spouse of Omar Ayyub Khan to get a ticket for the National Assembly seat NA-18 Haripur, which became vacant due to the disqualification of central PTI leader and former National Assembly opposition leader.
In an informal chat with journalists at the Supreme Court on Monday, Salman Akram Raja said that Omar Ayub’s constituency is the largest in all of Pakistan, and his wife has been working there as a political worker for the last 20 years.
“It’s not as if his wife has no connection with politics or is being imposed,” he said adding that Omar Ayub’s wife manages the regional politics and fully meets the definition of a political worker.
Salman Akram Raja said that it was the right of Omar Ayub’s wife, which the party has also accepted. Meanwhile, replying to a question regarding the finalisation of Omar Ayub’s five-year disqualification from public office in connection with the May 9 cases, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said that the case against his disqualification is still pending in the Peshawar High Court.
He mentioned that the hearing on the disqualification appeal was adjourned with the mutual consent of both the parties. “We hope that relief will surely be granted by the Peshawar High Court,” he added.
