PESHAWAR: The senior leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Saturday discussed the law & order situation in the province and decided to convene a “peace jirga” in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.

The meeting was held at the Chief Minister’s House, Peshawar, which was attended by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar, Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, PTI provincial president Junaid Akbar, Asad Qaiser and other senior leaders.

Former chief ministers, governors, religious scholars, tribal elders, members of civil society, lawyers and other prominent figures would attend the jirga. The PTI leaders said the objective of the Jirga was to formulate a joint strategy for the eradication of terrorism and the establishment of sustainable peace in the province.

Expressing deep sorrow over the recent Hangu bomb blast, the participants offered fateha for the martyred police personnel and paid rich tribute to the sacrifices of police force.

Addressing the meeting, the chief minister reaffirmed that the provincial government stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the police force, adding that providing modern equipment, training and resources to the police remains the government’s top priority.
