Microsoft rolled out a significant AI-powered Copilot feature on Thursday, October 23, 2025, during its fall Update event, introducing dozens of other features for Edge, Windows, and the Copilot iOS app.
“At Microsoft AI, we want to change the outlook," said Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman.
The American tech company has introduced a new version of its Copilot Chatbot ‘Clippy’ as ‘Mico’.
The name ‘Mico’ was derived from Microsoft Copilot, which functions as a chatbot's visual persona.
The software company explained that the new Copilot feature can automate a broader range of tasks for users and serve as a more personal avatar for the AI-powered Copilot digital assistant.
“Today, we're dropping the Copilot Fall Release, a big step forward in making AI more personal, useful, and human-centred. There’s a lot of noise around AI. Headlines, hype, fear,” said Microsoft.
The primary purpose of the new, updated, and designed features was to make the chatbots more personal, intelligent and interactive.
The major update brings enhanced Copilot Mode in Microsoft Edge, long-term memory capabilities, and integration with third-party platforms like Google Drive and Gmail.
Animated avatar Mico is giving Copilot a visual identity for the first time. The new addition also responds to facial expressions, gestures and colour changes during voice chats, aiming to make interactions feel more natural and empathetic.
Copilot's CEO informs that Mico show support through animation and expressions, creating a friendly and engaging experience.
“Mico is expressive, it listens, reacts and even changes colours to reflect your interactions,” wrote Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman.
“It helps you think, plan, and dream, but always on your terms. It adapts to your needs and context, remembers what matters to you, and learns from your feedback.”Suleyman added.
According toVerge,Mico appears to be more capable than Clippy or Cortana.
Microsoft is also adding a 'Learn Live' mode to Mico that will turn the character into a Socratic tutor that “guides you through concepts instead of just giving answers”.
The new virtual character will rely on a new memory feature inside Copilot to offer facts it has learned about you and the things you’re working on.
Microsoft further informs that the feature is enabled by default when you’re using Copilot’s voice mode, but users can turn it off if they choose.
Additionally, Mico will initially be available in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. and will save memories of your conversations and learn from your feedback, according to Microsoft.
“As we build this, we’re not chasing engagement or optimising for screen time. We’re building AI that gets you back to your life. That deepens human connection. "That earns your trust," said Mustafa Suleyman.
