Cyber Criminals are attacking all sorts of networks these days. A latest finding reveals that now these criminals are targeting Android devices in a bid to trick users into surrendering their personal and financial information.
According to ChronicleLive, researchers at HUMAN’s Satori Threat Intelligence and Research Team advised android users to immediately delete applications that possess potential hacking or being infected.
The researchers find out how hackers degrade the performance of compromised devices while enriching themselves.
The research team further reveals that the most recent scheme by cyber criminals for hacking attempts involves executing a complex type of advertising fraud known as “SlopAds."
They explained that cyber hackers plan fraudulent tricks through flooding applications with malicious advertisements to slow down devices.
The Daily Record reports, threat intelligence team found that 224 Android applications were affected by the fraudulent advertising campaign which have been installed more than 38 million times across 228 countries and territories through Google Play Store’s platform.
“HUMAN’s Satori Threat Intelligence and Research Team has uncovered and disrupted a sophisticated ad fraud and click fraud operation dubbed SlopAds,” states HUMAN security team.
"These apps deliver their fraud payload using steganography and create hidden WebView’s to navigate to threat actor-owned cashout sites, generating fraudulent ad impressions and clicks. The threat actors' infrastructure and many of the apps share an AI theme, contributing to the name of the operation," they added.
Additionally, the Daily Record informs that google has managed to remove all such offending apps and hopefully no new users would be affected by ad frauds.
