Independent Group sweeps SCBA elections

LAHORE: In the annual elections of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), Asma Jahangir Independent Group made a clean sweep.

Asma Jahangir Group’s Harun-ur-Rashid was elected president according to the final results, getting 1,509 votes in 11 cities while Asma Khan Professional Group’s Taufiq Asif could get 1,021 votes.

Malik Zahid Aslam Awan of Asma Jahangir Group was elected secretary with 1,222 votes, while Mian Irfan Akram of Professional Group was able to get 812 votes. Some 4,379 lawyers from across the country were eligible to vote.

President-elect Harun-ur-Rashid said that the Supreme Court would continue to strive to balance the relationship between the bar and the bench in the context of the Constitution and law.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz congratulated the Independent Group on winning the Supreme Court Bar elections. She extended her felicitations to the newly elected President of Supreme Court Bar Association, Harun-ur-Rashid, Secretary Zahid Aslam Awan and other office-bearers. She also conveyed her best wishes to the newly elected leadership of Supreme Court Bar Association.

Jamal Khurshid adds: Independent Panel’s Harun-ur-Rashid took 195 votes from Karachi against his rival Taufiq Asif of Professional panel who obtained 185 votes in the Supreme Court Bar Association’s 2025 election from Karachi.

The voting was held at the Sindh Bar Council’s polling station in Sindh High Court where 385 voters of SCBA cast their votes.

According to unofficial results, Malik Zahid Aslam Awan took 193 votes for the post of secretary while his rival candidate Mian Irfan Akram obtained 159 votes.

Sardar Tariq Hussain obtained 215 votes for the post of additional secretary against his opponent Qazi Ghulam Dastagir who obtained 158 votes. Saira Khalid Rajput obtained 190 votes while Mohammad Tanveer Chaudhry took 179 votes for the post of finance secretary of SBCA.

According to the election official, Malik Khushal Khan Awan took 208 votes for the post of Vice President from Sindh, Rehmatullah Saddozai took 194 votes for post of VP from Balochistan, Mohammad Habib Qureshi took 200 votes for post of VP from KP and Chaudhry Arshad Hussain took 187 votes for the post of VP from Punjab.

For the post of member executive, Illahi Bux Mengal took 217 votes (Balochistan), Raheela Bibi secured 188 votes (KPK), Hafiza Mehnaz Nadeem Abbasi took 188 votes (Multan/Bhawalpur), Javed Imran Ranjha obtained 203 (Punjab) and Syed Jaffer Ali Shah took 220 votes (Sindh).
