LAHORE: Authorities have imposed restrictions on the movement of Chinese nationals in various parts of Punjab until October 19, 2025, citing heightened security concerns following recent intelligence reports.
According to an official directive issued by law enforcement agencies, Chinese citizens working on development and infrastructure projects in the province have been instructed to limit their travel and coordinate in advance with local police before moving outside designated areas. The measure aims to prevent potential security threats and ensure the safety of foreign workers engaged in projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The directive further emphasises that Chinese nationals should be provided police escorts during intercity or inter-district travel. Project heads and security managers have been directed to maintain close coordination with district police offices and submit updated travel itineraries in advance.
Sources in the provincial home department confirmed that the decision follows intelligence alerts warning of possible targeting of foreign nationals, particularly those associated with Chinese-funded initiatives.
The provincial government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of all foreign nationals working in Pakistan, adding that enhanced security measures were being implemented in close coordination with federal agencies.
