A three-hour meeting chaired by Provincial Minister for Universities and Educational Boards Muhammad Ismail Rahoo was held on Wednesday to review reforms in Sindh’s education system, including the implementation of an e-marking system for examination papers.
Officials said the session brought together the department of universities and the chairpersons of all educational boards. Attendees included Secretary Universities Muhammad Abbas Baloch, Chairman Board of Intermediate Education Karachi Faqeer Muhammad Lakho, and other senior officials.
The meeting featured a detailed briefing on the performance of the universities department, progress on educational reforms, and updates on the e-marking initiative. It was shared that several boards in Sindh have begun pilot testing the e-marking system, while the Nawabshah and Sukkur boards had fully transitioned to an e-papering and automation system.
Lakho informed the meeting that the Islamabad Federal Board was assisting Karachi’s Intermediate Board by providing free software, IT infrastructure, and training. He added that Karachi, Hyderabad, Larkana, and Mirpurkhas boards had each conducted one paper using the e-marking system, while the Larkana Board had successfully held 9th and 11th grade exams under the new digital process.
Rahoo said that e-marking would enhance transparency and modernisation within Sindh’s examination framework. In view of the ongoing electricity crisis, it was decided to gradually shift the Larkana and Karachi Matric Boards to solar energy to ensure uninterrupted examination and office operations.
The minister directed the boards to develop an effective mechanism for resolving student grievances promptly and to release results by the end of this month. He also emphasised the need to swiftly transition all boards to e-marking.
