Islamabad:The federal government has mandated a substantial expansion and modernisation of the capital’s security infrastructure, including the establishment of new police stations in high-crime localities, as part of a directive to create a ‘Crime-free’ metropolis.

The announcement followed a three-hour review meeting chaired by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, which focused on both security preparedness and key development projects across Islamabad.

During the session, Naqvi assigned the ICT Police the urgent task of completing the construction of six new police stations within a strict 45-day deadline. The officials engaged in providing security to the capital affirmed that the police would be equipped with the necessary resources and an enhanced intelligence sharing policy to effectively maintain law and order, combat crime, and quash terrorism.

The meeting was informed by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa that tenders have already been issued for the construction of 10 additional police stations, signaling a sustained commitment to expanding the police presence in the city’s most sensitive areas.

In parallel with the security review, the meeting also focused on major infrastructure development, with a principal decision made regarding the construction of a new international-standard Convention Centre ahead of the SCO Conference 2027, in line with the Prime Minister’s directives.

It was principally decided to construct another major convention hall adjacent to the existing Jinnah Convention Centre. “The new project should include a spacious convention hall along with several large conference and meeting rooms,” said Naqvi, emphasising that the facility “must be built according to international standards and modern requirements.”

The minister directed that the services of the best international and local architects be engaged for designing the project, noting that its completion would “facilitate the hosting of major international conferences in Pakistan.”

The meeting included a detailed review of the ongoing development projects in the capital. The CDA chief provided updates on several key initiatives which include a comprehensive plan for the commercialisation of the Islamabad Expressway.

The construction of the new block of Parliament Lodges is confirmed to be on track for completion within the stipulated timeframe. All foundation piles for the T-Chowk Flyover Project have been completed, while, the foundation stone for the Shaheen Chowk project is scheduled to be laid soon. And restoration work on the A-Block building of the Pak Secretariat is in its final stages.

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and Interior Secretary Muhammad Khurram Agha also attended the meeting, alongside the CDA Chairman, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, CDA members, and other senior officials.
