ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday returned Rs767 million to 383 victims of the New Metro City Gujjar Khan housing project scam, with Chairman NAB Lt-Gen (retd) Nazir Ahmed declaring that recovering looted public money remains the bureau’s foremost priority.
Speaking at a ceremony at NAB Headquarters, Islamabad, the chairman said citizens must carefully verify investment opportunities before investing their savings and assured that NAB would continue efforts to protect the public from fraudulent schemes.
The cheques were distributed to the affectees during the event, which was attended by Prosecutor General Accountability Syed Ehtesham Qadir Shah, NAB Director Generals, senior officials, and a large number of victims. In addition, 57 affectees accepted plot allotments, which have now been processed.
Nazir Ahmed praised the Islamabad/Rawalpindi NAB bureau for timely recoveries, crediting the performance of its officers and the investigating team. Shields were also awarded to the officials involved in the case.
According to NAB, the inquiry into the project was launched in September 2024 after complaints were filed against the management for failing to deliver plots despite receiving payments. Following NAB’s intervention, the management agreed to return the money to the victims.
Director General NAB (Islamabad/Rawalpindi) Waqar Ahmed Chauhan said the recovery demonstrates the bureau’s resolve under the leadership of Chairman Nazir Ahmed to ensure timely justice for the public.
