BANNU: The Hatikhel tribe issued an ultimatum to suspected militants, particularly the group led by Naseer alias Gidar, demanding their withdrawal from the Bargato Dam area by October 10.
According to reports, the militants had received reinforcements from the Taj Meidani faction of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) via the Ghoda Bakakhel route, following which they took positions around the Bargato Dam.
Sensing the gravity of the situation, a heavy contingent of police led by local DSP reached the site, cordoned off the area, and prevented the situation from escalating. The timely deployment of law enforcement ensured effective control over the tense standoff.
During the jirga, tribal elders resolved that if Naseer alias Gidar of Dogar Umarzai and his associates failed to vacate the area by the given deadline, the Hatikhel tribe would collectively launch an armed action against them.
DIG Bannu Range Sajjad Khan lauded the unity and resolve of the tribal elders, assuring them of full police support. “The police stand shoulder to shoulder with the people. In the fight against terrorism, the real strength lies in the unity of the police and the public. Maximum security and legal cooperation will be provided,” he stated.
