The education department has decided to assign the duties for 3-day anti-polio campaign that would start from July 25 to Grade-4 employees of the schools as the teachers associations have refused to do so due to their protest campaign against additional duties.

The Directorate of Education Rawalpindi has sent written directives to heads of middle and higher schools to provide two employees each for the polio campaign and those who would fail to carry out the task would face strict action.

Focal person Asif Nadeem has also made phone calls to heads of the schools and asked them to reach the office of Executive District Officer (EDO) Health on July 15 to review arrangements for the polio campaign.

It is pertinent to mention here that the school teachers used to perform duties for the polio campaign but due to their continuous protest against additional duties the education department has decided to give this task to the Grade 4 employees of the government schools

The teachers have been demanding fool-proof security, increase in the remunerations and the duty assignments in their nearest union councils.

According to the office of the EDO Health, the local government always provide adequate security to the teachers during the polio campaign and the remuneration being given to them is in accordance with the standard of World Health Organisation (WHO).
