ISLAMABAD: The Sub-Committee of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) directed the Ministry of Finance to prepare a payment plan for the National Highway Authority’s (NHA) liabilities, amounting to nearly Rs2 trillion.

The sub-committee on Tuesday met with its Convener, Syed Naveed Qamar to examine audit objections of the Finance Division from the fiscal years 2011—12 to 2022–23. It also reviewed long-outstanding recoveries involving the Finance Division and WAPDA.

Syed Naveed Qamar questioned the mechanism for settling such a substantial sum, noting that the issue must recur annually.

The finance secretary informed the committee that, of the Rs2 trillion, Rs217 billion had already been recovered.

He further said finalising a comprehensive payment plan with the NHA would require time and requested a two-month period.

The committee accepted the request

and directed the Ministry of Finance

to submit a detailed payment plan within 60 days.
