ECP enlists new political party

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday issued a notification formally enlisting a new political party—the Azad Awam Pakistan Party (AAPP).

The commission issued the certification following the party’s successful intra-party elections, which were held on July 13 of this year.

The notification, issued under Sections 208 and 209(3) of the Elections Act, 2017, and sub-rule (2) of Rule 158 of the Election Rules, 2017, states: “The Election Commission of Pakistan is pleased to publish for public information the Certificate containing information regarding the conduct of intra-party elections on 13.07.2025, the details of the election results, along with a copy of the notification showing the names, designations, and addresses of the

party’s office bearers, in respect of the newly enlisted political party ‘Azad Awam Pakistan Party’.”

According to the intra-party election results, Muhammad Ali has been elected as chairman of the AAPP and Muhammad Irfan Bhatti as secretary general.

With the addition of the AAPP, the total number of political parties now registered with the ECP stands at 167, in addition to the Grand Democratic Alliance—a coalition of five political parties.
