ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has requested the court to expedite the cross-examination in the defamation case against Imran Khan, Geo News reported.
The hearing of Shehbaz’s defamation claim of Rs10 billion against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan was held in a sessions court in Lahore.
During the hearing, Imran’s lawyer asked the Shehbaz’s counsel, “Did you send the legal notice?” To which the PM’s lawyer replied, “Yes, I sent the legal notice. It was dispatched via courier company.”
Shehbaz, present via video link, stated, “I was on a special visit to Qatar yesterday and returned last night for this case. Your honor, you are also busy, and other cases need to be addressed as well.”
He added, “The country is facing a flood situation. Floods are now entering Sindh. The provinces and the federation need to work together. An agricultural emergency has been declared. I have been present before you for an hour today. Please complete the cross-examination in this case.”
The PTI founder’s lawyer argued, “Your name is not on the receipts for sending the legal notice.” Shehbaz Sharif responded, “Yes, that is correct. My lawyer’s name is on the receipts, and they are part of the legal record.”
The lawyer further stated, “The receipts do not mention who received the legal notice.” In response, Shehbaz Sharif addressed the judge, saying, “Whatever receipts are available, they are before you.”
