The subject of a nationwide backlash is a Phillies fan, now widely known by the name “Phillies Karen”, after a video of her stealing a home run ball away from young boy at Miami game on September 5 went viral.
This accident took place when Phillies CF Harrison Bader hit a home run in the left-field stands.
Drew Feltwell, received the ball and gave it at once to his two-year-old son, Lincoln.
The happiness of the boy, however, was soon to end, as a woman named Cheryl Richardson Wagner came up to their seats.
In the footage, it is clearly visible that she is screaming that the ball was hers, and she points and shouts until an unnerved Feltwell gives in and passes the ball out of his son's gloves and hands it over to her.
The act was received by instant boos and chants of "Karen!" from the surrounding crowd. The footage was quickly circulated on the internet, leading to an outcry and causeing Phillies Karen to become the personification of entitlement.
In a recent video, the father of the young fan who spoke with NBC 10 Philadelphia stated that they went to watch the game to celebrate the child’s 10th birthday, “We’re just trying to make this week about him.”
“I felt like super dad, putting that ball in his glove and giving him a hug,” he shared how he felt at that moment.
But the woman kept on shouting and then he handed over the ball to her to “set an example of how to de-escalate a situation” in front of his son.
