ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday criticised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for his ‘negligence’ towards a flood-affected populace.

PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram, in a statement issued here, noted catastrophic floods have ravaged Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, submerging nearly half of Pakistan and plunging millions into misery.

Waqas also blasted the Punjab government of for allegedly disrupting PTI’s relief activities in the province and came down hard on the chief minister for her alleged staged visits to the flood-hit areas.

He lamented that Shehbaz’s ‘obsession’ with foreign trips has become so extreme that he cannot forego even a single visit. He said that the prime minister should have immediately cut short his foreign trip and been present on the ground to lead the rescue and relief efforts. But instead, he chose to receive briefings abroad, a move that speaks volumes of his detachment from the miseries of the people, Waqas added.

In contrast, Waqas highlighted that the PTI had suspended all political activities across the country and mobilised its workers to stand with the affected families. He went on to say that even the unlawfully incarcerated PTI Patron-in-Chief Imran Khan had issued strict instructions to all party workers to prioritise relief efforts for flood victims.

The PTI information secretary expressed grave concern over the alarming surge in terrorism, especially in KP and Balochistan.
