Commissioner orders anti-dengue protocols in flood relief camps

LAHORE:Commissioner Lahore Division Marryam Khan has directed the district administration that all anti-dengue protocols should be ensured 100 percent in the flood relief camps. An in this regard, a report on the implementation of the Punjab CM's instructions on cleanliness, clean water and other issues in the relief camps must be compiled immediately.

She issued these directions while chairing a divisional meeting to review anti-dengue, anti-smog and flood relief operations in the entire Lahore division on Wednesday. In the meeting, the relevant departments briefed the Commissioner Lahore. The district administration, while giving a briefing on the anti-dengue campaign, said that dengue larva surveillance is underway in Lahore. There are fewer dengue cases this time as compared to last year. District administration said that larvicidal drugs are being safely added to standing water to combat dengue. Currently, there is a high number of dengue larva in a UC in Iqbal Town, and teams are working there.

Commissioner Lahore Division Marryam Khan also visited flood relief camp established at Government Middle School Gaushala, Bund Road, Shafiqabad on Wednesday. DC Lahore Syed Musa Raza was also present on this occasion.

Commissioner Lahore reviewed the facilities provided by the district administration in the flood relief camp andhad breakfast with the flood victims and discussed the facilities provided by the district administration.The people residing in the camp expressed satisfaction with the facilities provided by the administration.

Commissioner Lahore also visited the sleeping/resting rooms of the people residing in the flood relief camp. She paid a special visit to the medical centre set up for medical care in the flood relief camp and review clinic on wheels, medicines and other facilities.

Marryam Khan said that 31 villages of Lahore division have been affected by the floods. She said that 43,000 people were shifted to safe places and relief camps while 13,621 cattle were also shifted to safe places.

She said that 3,898 people are present in nine relief camps in four tehsils of Lahore while three relief camps have been established in Ravi Town/tehsil near River Ravi alone. Clothes are also being provided to those residing in the flood relief camps.

Commissioner Lahore said that the Punjab Chief Minister is monitoring practical measures and facilities for the relief of flood victims. As per the instructions of the CM Punjab, 17 medical camps are functioning in provincial capital to treat water-borne diseases. She further said that nine veterinary relief camps and 17 mobile dispensaries for livestock are also active in Lahore.

While giving a briefing on anti-smog, officers of the Environment Department said that Lahore's overall air quality index today is good, and continuous air quality monitoring is underway. They said that notices and instructions have been issued to industries for anti-smog advisory and emission control.

While giving instructions on anti-smog, Commissioner Lahore has said that anti-smog activities should not be affected due to floods and the environmental teamsshould be present in the field.She said that advance planning should be done to controlthe smog as Lahore had faced severe smoglast year.

Commissioner Lahore further said that pyrolysis plants must be completely demolished and strict action must be taken against the violators. The meeting was attended by DC Lahore, Additional Commissioners Lahore Division,Wasa MD, SSP Traffic, MCL, Environment, Rescue, Health, Industries and officers from other departments, while all DCs participated in the meeting through video link.
