Islamabad:Speakers paid rich tributes to the late religious scholar, economist and parliamentarian Professor Khurshid Ahmad here at a reference which was held in his memory on Monday.
Participants including politicians, intellectuals and religious scholars remembered services of Professor Khurshid Ahmad in his capacity as parliamentarian, scholar and economist. Prominent amongst those spoke at the reference included former Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) ameer Sirajul Haq, ex-Chairman Senate Nayyar Bokhari, ex-Senator Farhatullah Babar, JI central naib ameers Liaquat Baloch, Mian Muhammad Aslam and Professor Muhammad Ibrahim, Dr. Anees Ahmad, Dr. Khalid Rehman and JI Islamabad ameer Nasarullah Randhawa.
Nasarullah Randhawa said that late Professor Khurshid Ahmad who was also a veteran leader of JI, enjoyed a respectable status in the Muslim Ummah. He said that Professor Khurshid also served at the Jeddah University and the International Islamic University, Islamabad.
Mian Muhammad Aslam said that Professor Khurshid struggled for the Islamic Government system in the county and also helped in introducing the Islamic banking. “Personalities like Professor Khurshid in Muslim Ummah borne in decade,” he said.
Nayyar Bokhari remembered Professor Khurshid’s role as member of the Senate, saying that he always presented his views on issues which raised in the upper house of the Parliament with clarity. " His role as a veteran parliamentarians serves as a guidance for the young members of the Parliament", he said.
Bokhari viewed that Professor Khurshid was a think-tank in the field of Islamic laws. Professor Ibrahim while paying rich tributes to the services of Profesor Khurshid said that he was most important leader of Jamaat-e-Islami after party's founder Maulana Abul Laala Maudoodi.
Chairman of the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS), Dr. Khalid Rehman said that he spent nearly 50 years with late Professor Khurshid Ahmad saying that lived as discipline life, was best user of his time and always achieve set targets on daily basis.
Veteran JI leader Sirajul Haq focused on remembering services of late Professor Khurshid Ahmad for the Islamic economic system and Jamaat-e-Islami of which he also served as central naib ameer for a long time.
Ex-Senator Farhatullah Babar recalled that when the Pervez Musharraf Government increased salaries of senators, Professor Khurshid and he himself refused to avail the same. “He was honest in his personality and always took care regarding expenditures while on official visits", he said.
Dr. Anees Ahmad, an educationist and social scientist who is also brother of Professor Khurshid Ahmad talked about every aspect of late parliamentarian's life. He termed death of Professor Khurshid Ahmad as a big loss to the country, religious circles, Jamaat-e-Islami and the Muslim Ummah.
