KARACHI: Electricity generation fell by 5.0 per cent to 14,123GWh in July of the fiscal year 2025, compared with 14,880GWh in the same month last year, largely due to a sharp decline in output from nuclear and RLNG sources.
However, production rose by 3.0 per cent compared with June 2025.According to the data, hydropower generation grew by 6.0 per cent in July 2025, reaching 5,668GWh against 5,341GWh in July 2024. This accounted for 40.31 per cent of total electricity generation.
Generation from local coal slipped 2.0 per cent, imported coal edged up 0.26 per cent, and RFO rose by 5.9 per cent. Domestic gas declined 7.4 per cent, RLNG gained 1.8 per cent, nuclear power dropped 29.3 per cent, while electricity imports from Iran fell by 36 per cent.
Local coal-fired power plants produced 1,503GWh in July 2025, making up 10.64 per cent of total output at a cost of Rs11.3477 per unit. Imported coal generation stood at 1,140GWh at Rs14.4986 per unit. No electricity was generated from HSD, while 108GWh came from RFO-based plants at a rate of Rs 31.0533 per unit.
