CHARSADDA: The son of a local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) was killed in alleged police firing in Charsadda, sources said on Friday.
It was learnt that a jirga was being held between two rival parties within the jurisdiction of City Police Station when the police intervened during which an exchange of fire took place.Muhammad Asim, the son of a district-level JI leader and a lawyer by profession, was killed on the spot, while two policemen, identified as constables Ilyas and Qasim, sustained injuries in the firing incident.
Following the incident, JI activists and family members placed the body at Farooq Azam Chowk and staged a protest. The demonstration was called off after negotiations between the protesters and district administration, led by the deputy commissioner.
The police later confirmed that a murder case had been registered against SHO City Police Station Behramand Shah on the complaint of the deceased’s brother. At the same time, another FIR was lodged against several members of Asim’s family for allegedly opening fire on police and injuring the two constables.
