Musk takes aim at Microsoft with satirically-named AI venture ‘Macrohard’

Elon Musk announces a new AI-driven software venture that aims to stimulate companies such as Microsoft, named “Macrohard.”

Tesla CEO further released the details of the project unveiling that it will work under his xAI startup that focuses on stimulating entire software companies using artificial intelligence.

Sharing on his official X account, he stated, “Join xAI and help build a purely AI software company called Macrohard. It’s a tongue-in-cheek name, but the project is very real! In principle, given that software companies like Microsoft do not themselves manufacture any physical hardware, it should be possible to simulate them entirely with AI.”

The trademark filing with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on August 1, 2025, by xAI reveals that the company “Macrohard” aims to give a broad range of AI-focused services.

The company will design software for artificial speech and text production aiding in the design and coding of video games using AI.

Earlier, Musk shared his thoughts about creating xAI as a “multi-agent AI software company”. He also desired to make Grok AI a platform where hundreds of specialized agents can work collaboratively.

The specialized agents then further imitate human interactions within virtual machines to improve software until excellence is achieved.

Launching Macrohard marks a significant escalation in Musk's broader ambitions within the AI sector, which also includes the massive Colossus supercomputer project.

The announcement of this new company adds to the 54-year-old's sprawling portfolio of companies including, Tesla, SpaceX, and Neuralink, as he continues to position himself at the forefront of AI and robotics innovation.
