Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Thursday visited the Karachi Press Club where he hoisted the national flag and cut a cake to celebrate Independence Day alongside journalists, and announced multiple major infrastructure projects’ inauguration dates.

Speaking to media professionals, he said the Karimabad Underpass would open on September 30, Korangi Causeway Bridge on November 15 and Shahrah-e-Bhutto up to Kathore on December 31.

He also highlighted the upcoming inauguration of the Gutter Baghicha Water Treatment Plant, which would supply water to the city’s industries, and stressed that a functioning industrial sector was crucial for Karachi’s economic stability.

Notable participants at the ceremony included MNA Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Karachi Press Club President Fazil Jamili, General Secretary Sohail Afzal, Joint Secretary Mudasir Ahmed and cricketer Sarfaraz Ahmed.

“We are committed to work and have a clear vision,” Wahab said as he discussed the New Hub Canal, Shahrah-e-Bhutto and water plant, He underscored the media’s role as the backbone of democracy, terming it vital for public awareness and policy guidance. He welcomed constructive criticism and suggestions for the city’s betterment.

He assured the journalists of his full cooperation and stated that the municipal institutions had been working with transparency to transform Karachi into a modern, secure and well-equipped city.
