According to an official notification, the sentence reduction will apply to all convicted prisoners in Balochistan’s jails and judicial detention centres, except those involved in serious crimes.

Ineligible categories include convicts found guilty of crimes against national security, terrorism, murder, rape, kidnapping, armed robbery, and other grave offences.

The notification further clarified that prisoners who have already benefited from a special pardon earlier this year will also not be entitled to this concession.

Shahid Rind said the initiative aims to share the joy of Independence Day with prisoners and their families, while reflecting the government’s commitment to the rehabilitation of inmates

and their reintegration into society as productive citizens.
