Eid celebrated

BAHAWALPUR: Eidul Fitr was celebrated with religious fervour amid strict security measures in the division.

Eid prayers were offered at 1,250 Eidgahs, Imambargahs, Masajid and open places in Bahawalpur, Rahimyar Khan and Bahawalnagar districts. In Bahawalpur, the main congregation was held at Markazi Eidgah. According to Regional Police Officer Dr Ahsan Sadiq, 9,700 security personnel performed security duties during Eid days.

Wheelie claims three lives in Bahawalpur

BAHAWALPUR: Three youths were killed and more than 500 injured in road accidents during Eid days here.

In the first incident, 20-year-old Siraj Ahmad, a resident of Shahdara Colony, was doing wheelie when his motorcycle collided with a truck on Hasilpur Road, killing him on the spot. In the second incident, Shahzad was injured while doing wheelie near Mubarikpur. He was shifted to the Bahawal Victoria Hospital where he died. In the third incident, an unidentified youth was injured while doing wheelie. He was shifted to the BVH where he died. According to BVH Emergency Ward Director Dr Amer Mehmood Bukhari, about 550 road accident victims were brought to the hospital during the Eid days.

CHILD DIES: A two-year-old child died after falling into an open manhole on Sugar Mill Road in Chishtian on the second day of Eid. He was identified as Hammad. Meanwhile, an unidentified baby girl was found dead on railway track near Chak 17 Morr Liaqatpur. Liaqatpur city police have shifted the body to the THQ Hospital for autopsy.
