IGP orders assigning expert and talented officers security duties for Chehlum, other events

Sindh police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon chaired a meeting at the Central Police Office Karachi on Tuesday on the law and order situation in the provincial and reviewed security arrangements and measures around the National Stadium for the Independence Day event as well as for the Chehlum processions.

He directed that the process of sweeping, searching and clearance should be ensured before organising Jashan Azadi, Chehlum and other events. IGP Memon said many programmes are being organised on the occasion of Marka-e-Haq Independence Day on August 13, and keeping in mind the enthusiasm of the citizens, the number of citizens may be more than the registered participants. So, he said, it is necessary to give important duties to expert and talented officers regarding foolproof security, while ensuring the presence of bomb disposal squad and physical squad search staff.

Apart from this, the installation of more CCTV cameras should also be ensured for complete monitoring of the event. He said that on the occasion of Independence Day, responsible persons should be appointed for the proper management of parking, while all the units of the CIA will be present at the event at all times.

He directed that not only places, roads, passageways and parking areas should be security audited, but the sharing of intelligence information with the district police and other units should also be ensured.

Besides these, AVLC, RRF and Crowd Management Unit personel should also be deployed at the National Stadium, he said. IGP Memon further directed that all the DIGs prepare foolproof security strategies regarding Independence Day and Hazrat Imam Hussain’s Chehlum, stay in touch with the organisers and hold meetings regarding the Chehlum.

He said additional personnel have been provided for the security of the Chehlum events. However, CTD and Special Branch will also ensure the preparation and implementation of their safety/precautionary plans.

The additional IGs of Karachi, CTD, Special Branch, and operations, the DIGs of Headquarters, Establishment, and IT and AIGs attended the meeting, while zonal and divisional DIGs and district SSPs participated through video link.

Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho said the traffic plan will be finalised by this evening on the occasion of Independence Day. The meeting was informed that security arrangements have been completed for the Chehlum, its routes, assemblies and processions.
