Princess Kate is opening up about the lesser-known tools that helped her navigate cancer treatment. And one of them happens to be a favourite of King Charles.
During her visit to Colchester Hospital’s cancer wellbeing centre on Wednesday, July 2, the Princess of Wales, 43, revealed she tried acupuncture while undergoing treatment last year.
The traditional Chinese therapy, which involves inserting fine needles into pressure points, has long been promoted by Kate's father-in-law, 76, as a valuable complementary practice.
In fact, Charles, who is undergoing cancer treatment himself, once urged the World Health Organization to integrate such treatments into mainstream healthcare.
Princess Catherine, who is currently in remission, reflected on how difficult it can be to re-enter normal life after treatment ends.
“You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment. Treatment's done, then it's like, 'I can crack on, get back to normal,' but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult,” Kate told fellow patients.
She added, “You’re not necessarily under the clinical team any longer but you’re not able to function normally at home as you perhaps once used to… someone to help talk you through that, show you and guide you… I think is really valuable.”
While at the centre, Kate also helped plant roses in a therapeutic garden designed to provide peace and support for patients, staff, and families.
