Meghan Markle called a hypocrite over Lilibet photo after Geneva visit

When Meghan Markle keeps a low profile, some royal commentators start digging into her past for criticism.

The Duchess of Sussex recently returned from Switzerland, where she attended the 79th World Health Assembly.

The memorial honored children whose lives were cut short due to harm they suffered via social media.

Using the occasion to criticize Meghan, internet personality Samara Gill branded the Duchess of Sussex a “hypocrite” after Meghan called for more action to protect children online.

Gill criticized her because Meghan spoke about children’s protection just days after posting a photo of her daughter Princess Lilibet on Instagram.

“It’s tone-deaf,” Gill said. “It’s not a good look when you’re lecturing people on keeping children away from social media, using strong words against tech companies, and then doing the opposite.”

Royal expert Chris Ship said he took issue with parents who post images of their children online but cover their faces with emojis to protect their privacy, as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have done before.

“Pick a lane,” Ship said on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive podcast. “Either don’t put your kids on social media at all, or do it. But if you’re going to do it, that’s your choice as a parent. It’s not your child’s choice.”

Ship added that when children become adults, they may ask their parents why they posted images without permission. “It’s a really difficult choice for parents,” he said.
