The Royal Family is all set to begin their annual Scottish tour, also known as “Royal Week” or “Holyrood Week.”
Taking place this year from June 1-4, the tradition sees the reigning monarch travel across Scotland to celebrate local culture, achievements and community. So far, King Charles, Queen Camilla, Princess Anne, and Prince Edward’s attendance has been confirmed.
A day before the tour, the official Instagram page of the royal family shared the history and significance of the tradition.
A statement read, “The magnificent Palace of Holyroodhouse has been the Sovereign’s official residence in Scotland since the 16th century. Originally founded as an Augustinian monastery in 1128, it has witnessed centuries of Royal history, including Mary, Queen of Scots’ turbulent reign.”
The week-long engagement includes visits to various Scottish regions and receptions at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, where thousands are hosted in recognition of their public service and charitable efforts.
As always, the festivities will begin with the historic Ceremony of the Keys in Edinburgh. During this symbolic ritual, the Lord Provost offers King Charles the keys to the city.
According to the statement, Holyroodhouse Palace “remains a powerful symbol of the enduring connection between the Monarchy and Scotland, welcoming thousands of visitors year-round who explore its historic State Apartments, Royal Collection, and beautiful gardens.”
