ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Power Awais Leghari Sunday directed all the distribution companies (DISCOs) across the country to ensure uninterrupted power supply during Muharram ul Haram.
In a letter addressed to the chairmen and chief executive officers of all power distribution companies, the minister emphasized the critical importance of seamless power supply during the month particularly, as millions of citizens are expected to participate in the nationwide congregations and processions.
Highlighting the extreme weather conditions, including heatwaves, Leghari stressed that the citizens must be protected from any form of discomfort or disruption during the observance of religious ceremonies.
He ordered immediate repair and replacement of all damaged or malfunctioning electrical equipment in areas of DISCOs.
Formation of emergency response teams in each distribution company will be on high alert on Youm-e-Ashur. He emphasized regular coordination with the district administrations, law-enforcement agencies, and religious organizations to ensure smooth operations.
The minister directed advance intimation to the Imambargahs, mosques, and key users about any scheduled maintenance or potential load management plans. The minister further directed the installation of standby power systems, including generators and UPS units, at all sensitive and high-priority locations.
Deployment of 24/7 technical and operational staff, with the establishment of dedicated control centers at all operational levels must be ensured, he added. The minister categorically said no negligence will be tolerated, and directed all the companies to send an action-taken report on the Muharram preparations to the Power Division without delay.
