One killed, five injured in Surjani Town shooting

A rickshaw driver was killed and five others were injured in a firing incident near a restaurant in Surjani Town on the night between Sunday and Monday.

The incident took place near the KDA Flats, where four armed suspects riding two motorcycles opened indiscriminate fire. The apparent target was a six-seater rickshaw, but bullets also struck several bystanders.

The deceased rickshaw driver had not yet been identified. The injured were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and identified as Tehmina, 50, wife of Shehzad; Noman, 22, son of Shehzad; Zaryab, 20, son of Abdul Sattar; Subhan, 30, son of Saeed; and six-year-old Zainab, daughter of Muneeb. According to SHO Ali Shah, the firing occurred near a roadside puncture shop. He added that two motorcycles carrying four gunmen pulled up and began firing directly at the rickshaw.

Another rickshaw parked outside the restaurant, carrying a woman and her son, was also caught in the crossfire. Additionally, a child sitting inside the restaurant and a staff member were injured in the incident. The rickshaw driver succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital.

The oolice said initial investigations suggested the driver might have been deliberately targeted. Authorities were reviewing CCTV footage and gathering eyewitness accounts to identify and apprehend the suspects. Further investigation is underway.
