ISLAMABAD: A review petition was Thursday filed with the Supreme Court against its judgment upholding the civilians’ military trial under certain clauses of the Army Act.
Junaid Razzaq filed the petition through lawyer Salman Akram Raja contending that the May 7 decision violated the fundamental human rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
It claims that allowing military trials of civilians goes against Article 10-A of the Constitution, which guarantees a fair trial.
It further contended that the constitutional bench based its decision on the past court rulings in a flawed manner. The verdict noted that the incidents of May 9 were not denied by the parties, yet the involvement of the accused in those events had not been proven.
The petitioner insisted that each accused should be tried by an independent court based on evidence.
He requested the court that the paragraph related to the May 9 events be removed from the judgment and that the May 7, 2025, verdict be reviewed and declared null and void.
