ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly (NA) Omar Ayub Khan Monday dismissed the disqualification reference, filed against him as a bid to intimidate him and claimed his rival (Babar Nawaz) had greeted him on his win in 2024 general election.
He argued that the NA speaker should have applied his mind, but it appeared that there was so much pressure on him from the agencies that he straight away forwarded the reference to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
Omar Ayub, who had made to the National Assembly from NA-18 Haripur, while talking to the media here at the Parliament House, said even his opponent had congratulated him, despite later trying to fabricate allegations through a fake letter, which the district election officer confirmed was never received.
Omar Ayub, flanked by ex-speaker NA Asad Qaiser, condemned the ‘false’ reference being filed to pressurise him, reiterating that courts have ruled in his favour and rejecting any attempt to intimidate him.
He made it clear that neither Form-47 regime nor political pressure could force him to abandon his stance, asserting that all his parliamentary speeches have been for the unity, sovereignty and democratic future of Pakistan.
