With Eidul Azha just around the corner, cattle thefts have surged in the city, raising concerns among residents. In a brazen robbery in New Karachi’s Godhra area, unidentified men broke into a house, held a resident hostage at gunpoint, then escaped with livestock worth millions of rupees.
The incident’s CCTV camera footage shows the suspects arriving on motorbikes and in a pickup truck. It also shows them trying to load three large animals onto the truck, but due to limited space, they managed to flee with only two large animals and a calf.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. They are also carrying out raids in different parts of the city to trace the whereabouts of the suspects. The city’s residents have expressed frustration over the rise in cattle thefts, especially as Eidul Azha, a time when many keep sacrificial animals at home, approaches. They have urged the authorities to increase patrolling and provide protection to livestock owners.
A couple of days ago, unidentified suspects had snatched three sacrificial sheep from a rickshaw driver in Ayesha Manzil. The rickshaw and the snatched sheep are yet to be recovered.
