The Sindh inspector general of police (IGP), Ghulam Nabi Memon, has said a small effort after traffic accidents can save someone's life. He said this on Sunday as he reacted to the death of a teacher in a road accident.
Assistant Professor Iftikhar Ahmed Bhutto, 35, died in a tragic accident in the Sharafi Goth area of Karachi. A fast-moving trailer truck ran him over when he was on his way to his workplace.
The deceased teacher taught at the Govt College Ibrahim Hyderi. Police said the trailer truck driver responsible for the accident fled the scene after the accident, leaving behind the heavy vehicle. The victim was a resident of Gulshan-i- Hadeed and father of four children.
The provincial police chief stated on Sunday that if the injured had been shifted to hospital on time, his life could have been saved. It is also the moral, legal and religious duty of every citizen to help the victims in the event of an accident, IGP Memon said, adding that delay in medical treatment could often resulted in the deaths of accident victims due to loss of blood and other complications.
The Sindh police chief appealed to the public to try to save the lives of accident victims and asked them not to fear legal complications. The fear of legal complications was baseless, he said, adding that saving one life was equivalent to saving the entire humanity and it was a requirement of faith.
“Do not remain silent on the accident, take action, help the injured because every life is precious. Citizens should help without fear, police and civil institutions will fully cooperate,” stated the IGP.
He said citizens who helped save the lives of others were Messiahs and they would be given respect and protection by the police. “Do not refuse to help the injured after an accident. A small effort can save someone's life, take steps to save people's lives after civil
accidents,” he said.
The IGP remarked that the police could not discharge their duties and responsibilities completely if they did not have public cooperation and support. On Saturday, multiple deaths were reported from Karachi as a result of traffic accidents.
