Scholarship for university students from minorities raised

The Sindh government has decided to increase from Rs25,000 to Rs50,000 the amount of its one-time need-cum-merit-based scholarship for deserving university students in the province from religious minorities.

The decision to this effect was made at a meeting of the Sindh Non-Muslim Welfare Committee on Friday with Special Assistant to the Sindh Chief Minister on Minorities' Affairs Dr Lalchand Ukrani in the chair.

The participants of the meeting were informed that the minorities' affairs department of the Sindh government had received a total of 645 applications from students from religious minorities for the scholarship for university-level education. After the due scrutiny, 594 applicants were declared eligible for the scholarship.
