LONDON: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s son Junaid Safdar is set to be engaged with the granddaughter of one of Nawaz Sharif’s first cousins in Lahore on Wednesday.
Three family sources told Geo News that Junaid Safdar’s engagement has been agreed with the granddaughter of Mr Javed Shafi, a first cousin and confidante of former premier Nawaz Sharif.
He runs Ittefaq Group Industries with the sons of Mian Tariq Shafi’ and rest of the wider Sharif clan. Junaid Safdar engagement has been agreed with the daughter of Usman Javed, 48, son of Mian Javed Shafi, who lives in Model Town.
The source said: “The families from both sides including Mian Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Mian Javed Shafi met on Wednesday in Model Town.”
This will be Junaid Safdar’s second marriage. He was previously married
to Ayesha Saif, the daughter of Qatar based industrialist Saifur Rahman Khan.
The couple divorced amicably in October 2023. Junaid’s first wedding took place in London in 2021 at The Lanesborough, located in Knightsbridge, when Nawaz Sharif was in exile.
In October 2023, Junaid Safdar shifted from London to Pakistan full time to assist his mother.
Junaid Safdar, a Cambridge graduate, has two Master’s and two Bachelor’s degrees from UK universities.
He is a polo enthusiast and has won multiple competitions representing British universities.
He received his master’s degree in International Relations (IR) from the London School of Economics (LSE) in 2020.
He has also done a master’s in Global Governance and Ethics from the University College London (UCL).
Prior to the UCL, Junaid had graduated from Durham university with a first-class honour in politics.
He obtained a degree from the University of Cambridge 2022.
