HYDERABAD: A wind storm and rain in Hyderabad, Jamshoro and Kotri on Wednesday evening brought some relief from the intense heat and humidity that had persisted for several days. However, the weather also disrupted the power supply system.
According to a spokesperson for the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco), trees, flags and billboards were knocked down by the strong winds, causing power poles and cables to fall in various areas, severely affecting the electricity supply.
The spokesperson said that 62 feeders had tripped and suspended power supply, adding that restoration work began once the rain subsided, but due to fallen poles and cables on several feeders, it can take up to 24 hours to fully restore electricity.
Life in Jamshoro and Kotri was also disrupted by the storm and rain. In Kotri a boy named Ahsan Soomro died after a wall collapsed near the sessions court.
In Jamshoro a roof collapse left Huzoor Bakhsh Rind seriously injured, while two more people were injured in separate incidents.
