The Special Investigation Unit of the Karachi police on Monday claimed to have arrested two men allegedly involved in the killing of a citizen during a mugging bid in Orangi Town last year.
According to the SIU spokesperson, acting on directives from SIU SSP Shoaib Memon, a special police team was formed to curb the menace of growing incidents of armed robberies and street crime. The team arrested two suspects, namely Shoaib and Kashif, during a raid conducted in the Khyber Chowk area of the SITE locality.
On June 12, 2024, the suspects had attempted to loot a man and his nephew in Orangi Town. The maternal uncle Gulzar Ahmed was shot and killed by robber Kashif for offering resistance, while one of the robbers was also killed in the incident.
Later, a case was registered on the complaint of the victim's nephew at the Mominabad police station. The suspects and their companions have been involved in various cases of street crime and robberies in Orangi Town, Banaras, Bijli Nagar, Nazimabad, Fareed Colony and parts of the city.
In separate raid, the SIU police arrested an alleged member of an inter-provincial gang of drug smugglers. The suspect was identified as Abdul Sajjad. The SIU police also claimed to have recovered 460 grams of weed worth Rs12 million from his possession. Also, the SIU police arrested another suspect namely Junaid during a raid in the Bahadurabad area and recovered a stolen expensive cell phone from his possession.
