Girl murdered by cousin over marriage issue

FAISALABAD: A girl was murdered over a marriage issue at Chak 272/RB, Dijkot. Ilyas Masih wanted to contract marriage with his cousin Sawera, but her parents refused. It infuriated Ilyas and he allegedly shot Sawera dead and injured her mother Nasim. The injured woman was shifted to the Dijkot hospital.
Three Afghans nabbed at Islamabad airport
ISLAMABAD: Airport Security Force arrested three Afghan nationals at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport Monday for possessing invalid documents. ASF officials also recovered fake documents from the Afghans including expired identity cards. The detained Afghans were shifted to a nearby police post for further interrogation. Their names could not be ascertained immediately.
Man arrested for attacking polio workers in Karak

KARAK: A group of polio workers had a brush with death on Sunday when an armed man opened fire on them in Shahidan area in the district.The polio vaccinators escaped unhurt as they took shelter in the locality for hours before being rescued by local elders. The accused identified as Jalal was, however, arrested and put behind bars.
Congresswoman seeks details
of cases against Dr Asim

ISLAMABAD: Member of US Congress Maxine Moore Waters has written a letter to the Foreign Office of Pakistan seeking details of allegations on which Dr Asim was detained. Dr Asim is being tried in different courts on charges of money-laundering and corruption. Maxine Waters sought details of all allegations through her letter to the Foreign Office. The Foreign Office has written a letter to chairman NAB seeking details of charges against the PPP leader. According to the letter, the details received from the NAB would be sent to the US Congresswoman.
Seven killed in separate accidents in KP
PESHAWAR: Seven people have been killed and four injured in separate road accidents in Shangla and Swat districts. Six people were killed and three injured in a head-on collision between two cars near Bisham in Shangla. In another accident, one person was killed and another wounded when a motorcycle hit a car in the Kabal area of Swat.
TTP commander arrested
LOWER KURRAM: Security forces arrested a commander of banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan in an injured condition after exchange of fire, besides recovering arms from his possession on Monday.Security sources said that the law enforcement agencies over secret reports about presence of extremists conducted an operation in Lower Kurram Agency during which an encounter took place. The security forces arrested TTP commander, identified as Shakir, along with arms. The detained TTP commander was shifted to an undisclosed location for further interrogation.
Five killed in accident near Matiari
HYDERABAD: Five persons were killed and two others injured in a road accident on the National Highway near Matiari district in Sindh on Monday. According to police, a car en route to Khairpur from Mirpur crashed into an oil tanker coming from the opposite direction on the National Highway near new Saeedabad area, killing four persons of a family and driver of the vehicle. The victims were identified as 45-year-old Naseeban, 35-year-old Gulistan, 32-year- old Shaista, 40-year-old Abdul Ghani and driver Iqbal. The deceased belonged to Tando Masti area in Khairpur. Rescue teams reached the spot and shifted the injured and bodies to the nearby hospitals.
NA body discusses women protection bill
ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Human Rights on Monday considered the Protection Against Harassment of Women at Workplace (Amendment) Bill 2014 and decided to hold further deliberations on it in the next meeting. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Babar Nawaz Khan MNA, and attended by Stefano Gatto, acting ambassador of the European Union as a special invitee. During the meeting, the committee granted confirmation of its previous meeting minutes, said a news release issued here.Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) Plus status of Pakistan is under threat for non-compliance with many conventions of European Union (EU) related to human rights. The EU representative briefed the committee about GSP Plus status in detail.
FO official’s remand extended
ISLAMABAD: An Accountability Court (AC) in Islamabad on Monday extended the judicial remand of foreign ministry official Shafqat Cheema for 14 days.Cheema has been facing charges of human trafficking and amassing assets beyond declared source of income.NAB presented the accused before AC Judge Muhammad Bashir after his judicial remand expired. Counsel for the accused prayed the court to issue order for returning of a cell phone and a laptop of the accused but the NAB declined to return the two things taking the plea that these were part of the case. On the NAB’s request, the court extended the judicial remand of accused for 14 days. The hearing was adjourned till July 11.
Two alleged facilitators of outlaws arrested

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Police on Monday arrested two men accused of facilitating outlaws in Bhanrogan area in the limits of Band Korai Police Station.Police sources said that two men Ameer Hamza and Niaz Muhammad were arrested for facilitating known outlaws Adnan and Abdullah. The police registered cases against the alleged outlaws’ facilitators.
One killed as rainstorm hits Karak

KARAK: A young man died and several others were injured as rainstorm lashed various parts of the district. The police and other sources said that on Sunday night, hailstorm and gusty winds resulted in collapse of roofs and boundary walls of houses in different parts of the district. A young man, whose name could not be ascertained, died in Tordhand area. The sources added that several people sustained injuries in rain-related incidents in Azarkhel, Chanikhel, Andaki, Kurd and Showanki areas and they were taken to health facilities. The storm also uprooted electricity poles in some areas and power supply remained suspended to many localities for more than 24 hours.
