FAISALABAD: Naik Abdul Rehman, who embraced martyrdom while bravely countering Indian shelling along the Line of Control, was laid to rest on Monday with full military honours in village 540 GB near Tandlianwala.
The funeral prayers were attended by a large number of Pakistan Army officers, police officials, political and social personalities and locals. Key attendees included Lieutenant Colonel Imtiaz, Major Shahid, RPO Zeeshan, CPO Bilal, MNA Saadullah Baloch, and MPA Noor Shahid. The martyred commando from the SSG embraced martyrdom during a confrontation in the Baba Ram Ban sector of Kashmir. His father also served in the Pakistan Army. He is survived by two daughters and a widow.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry and Punjab Minister for Social Welfare & Bait-ul-Maal Sohail Shaukat Butt on Monday visited the residences of Naik Abdul Rehman and Khalid Mahmood, a civilian martyred in the Muridke attack. They were accompanied by Commissioner Maryam Khan, Brigadier Iftikhar, RPO Zeeshan Asghar, MNA Ali Gohar Baloch, MPAs Rao Kashif Raheem and Arif Gill, Deputy Commissioner Capt (retd) Nadeem Nasir, and CPO Bilal Umar.
The ministers met the families of the martyrs, offered prayers for the departed souls, and announced full support for the upbringing of their children. Instructions were also issued to transform Chak 225 GB (Jagawan) into a model village.
Junaid said the armed forces avenged the martyrs by delivering a strong response to India and assured that the children of martyrs would never be left alone. Sohail conveyed a message of solidarity from Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz, promising full support to families affected by Indian aggression.
