Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Saturday visited several areas of the city to assess the ongoing efforts against water theft and ensure the fair distribution of water to citizens.
Accompanied by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, Chief Operating Officer (COO) Engineer Asadullah Khan, and other senior officials, the mayor inspected key locations including Islam Ganj Colony near Lasbela Bridge, Lyari River, Musarrat Cinema in Nazimabad, Saifullah Bangash Adda, and an ice factory opposite the Silica Machine Factory in Nazimabad.
The visit was part of an intensified campaign to curb water theft in the city. Wahab emphasised that a transparent, impartial investigation would be conducted into all incidents of water theft. He reiterated that water belongs to the citizens of Karachi and pledged that their rightful share would not be stolen or wasted under any circumstances.
He further directed authorities to take strict legal action against those involved in water theft and to initiate departmental proceedings against any officials found complicit. Acting swiftly on these instructions, Siddiqui suspended two officers—Executive Engineer FTM SM Ahsan and Executive Engineer CTM Ehsanullah Shaikh—who were found involved in such activities. Suspension notices were formally issued by the corporation’s HR department.
Wahab warned that indiscriminate action would be taken against any officer or staff member implicated in water theft. He assured that comprehensive measures were being implemented to guarantee a fair and uninterrupted water supply for all citizens of Karachi.
