Cop martyred in Bannu attack

BANNU: A police constable embraced martyrdom when an unidentified motorcycle-riding assailant opened fire on him in the Kinger Jan Bahadur area here on Tuesday.

Sources said that Constable Khanzaib, son of Bakhtiyar and a resident of Sardod Killa Sarwar Fath-e-Khel, was on his way to duty when the incident occurred.

Khanzaib sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Bannu where he succumbed to his injuries. He was serving in the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) at the time of his death.

Following the attack, the assailant fled the scene towards the city. Law-enforcement agencies have cordoned off the area and initiated an investigation into the incident.

The funeral prayer for the martyred constable was held at the Police Lines in Bannu. The ceremony was attended by RPO Sajjad Khan, DPO Saleem Abbas Kulachi, senior police officials, fellow officers and members of Khanzaib’s family.
