Senate by-poll to be held at PA today

The polling for the by-election to fill the vacant Senate general seat from Sindh will be held on Tuesday (today). The voting will be held at the provincial assembly from 9am to 4pm without any break.

Syed Waqar Mehdi of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Nighat Mirza of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan are the two candidates contesting the by-poll for the seat. Provincial Election Commissioner Ejaz Anwar Chauhan will act as the returning officer for the by-poll. Chauhan reviewed the arrangements for the by-election on Monday, along with the PA secretary.

Chauhan expressed satisfaction with the arrangements. He said the Election Commission of Pakistan is ready to conduct the by-poll. The Senate seat had fallen vacant due to the death of the PPP’s veteran leader Senator Taj Haider.
