Personnel of the Pakistan Customs Enforcement on Friday seized a huge quantity of donkey hides that were set to be smuggled to China.

Syed Irfan Ali, a spokesman for the customs, said that, the Enforcement Collectorate Karachi was playing an active role in the fight against smuggling and foiled an attempt to smuggle donkey skins abroad.

The staff deployed on the Risk Management Profiling System of the Collectorate of Customs Enforcement Karachi detected a container number SEGU-3154225 cleared from the Green Channel of the Collectorate of Customs Export at the South Asia Pakistan Port (SAPT) Terminal, whose export documents showed 285 packages of leather products, which were being sent to China.

The container was allowed to be loaded onto a ship and had been issued by the Export Collectorate to the Anti-Smuggling Department.

Staff of the ASO conducted an inspection, as a result of which 14,000 kilograms of prohibited donkey hides worth Rs80 million were recovered under the guise of leather products. The seized donkey hides have been transferred to the ASO warehouse. A case has been registered against the exporter under the relevant provisions of the Customs Act.

Collector Customs Enforcement Karachi Moinuddin Wani praised the performance of the officers and staff of the Enforcement Collectorate after their successful operation.
