Islamabad:A group of female students from the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) narrowly escaped a serious accident on Wednesday when a tyre of their bus burst while traveling on the Srinagar Highway.

According to details, the incident occurred just a couple of kilometers from the university premises when a tyre of the speeding bus blew out, causing the wheel to dislocate. Fortunately, the driver managed to retain control of the vehicle, preventing what could have been a devastating crash. The bus involved in the incident is reportedly one of the oldest in the university's transport fleet—over 40 years old. Just a day earlier, the same bus had developed a mechanical fault on I.J. Principal Road while returning from the university. During that breakdown, female students were left waiting for over an hour under the scorching sun for an alternate vehicle.

Students, faculty, and staff have since raised concerns over the condition of the university’s aging fleet and have urged the administration to ensure regular maintenance and timely replacement of outdated buses. Despite operating a large transport system that offers pick-and-drop services in two shifts, the university’s fleet includes several aging vehicles that are increasingly prone to mechanical issues.
