Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Friday announced that Phase 2 of Shahrah-e-Bhutto (Malir Expressway), spanning from the airport to Quaidabad, would be completed by the end of March.

He stated that the project was progressing swiftly, with expected completion right after Eid, while Phase 3 (Quaidabad to Kathore) was also set to be finished ahead of schedule. During his visit to the Malir Expressway, Wahab reaffirmed the Pakistan Peoples Party’s commitment to fulfilling its promises and ensuring Karachi’s continued development. He emphasised that once completed, Shahrah-e-Bhutto would provide an alternative route to the airport, Super Highway, and other parts of the city, significantly reducing travel time and fuel consumption.

He further mentioned that Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah would personally announce the opening date of Phase 2. While inspecting piling and girder construction at Sammo Goth, he instructed officials to expedite the work while maintaining quality standards. He also highlighted that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had prioritised public welfare projects, ensuring their timely completion. He noted that various development projects across Karachi were progressing rapidly, with significant investments in road construction, parks, playgrounds, underpasses, and flyovers.

Addressing financial concerns, he said that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) was not facing a financial crisis, citing Municipal Utility Charges Taxes (MUCT) payments through K-Electric and strong support from the Sindh government as key factors in improving municipal services. Additionally, he revealed that 12 water supply leaks had been repaired, enhancing water distribution in affected areas. “While some focus on criticism, our mission is simple: work, work, and only work,” he stated.
