Man immolates self in protest against prolonged legal battle

LAHORE:A man set himself on fire on the Lahore High Court premises, allegedly in protest against a prolonged legal battle. The tragic episode left onlookers in a shock as officials rushed to his aid, extinguishing the flames and shifting him to the hospital for treatment.

According to details, Asif Javed, a former employee of a well-known brand's Kabirwala plant, had been embroiled in a five-year-long legal struggle after being dismissed from his job due to union activities. The Labour Court had ruled in his favour, reinstating him and directing the company to clear his outstanding dues. However, the company challenged this verdict in the High Court, resulting in prolonged hearings without resolution. Eyewitnesses reported that after appearing in the court, Asif exited the courtroom of the Senior Judge and, in an apparent act of desperation, set himself on fire while repeatedly shouting, "I want justice!"

Duty officers, including policemen and other court staff, sprang into action, dousing the flames with water, a blanket, and a fire extinguisher before rescue teams arrived. Emergency services transported the injured to the hospital for urgent medical attention. His condition remains critical, and doctors are closely monitoring his health.

IGP, Punjab, Dr Usman Anwar visited Mayo Hospital and the LHC. According to Punjab Police spokesperson, the IGP visited Asif Javed, who is undergoing treatment at Mayo Hospital, and inquired after his well-being.

Rape bid foiled; suspect arrested

Sanda police arrested a man who tried to rape a 10-year-old boy. According to the details, a 10-year old boy named (A), a resident of Sanda, went to the general store in Bilal Park to buy groceries, where the store owner Zaman called him inside, molested him and tried to rape him, to which the boy raised a noise. Upon receiving the information, the police registered a case against the accused and handed him over to the Investigation Wing for further investigation.

Meanwhile, a man allegedly attempted to sexually assault a woman in her home in the Kot Lakhpat police area. The suspect, identified as Aamir, reportedly took advantage of the woman being alone in the house. The victim, identified as N, raised an alarm during the attack, upon which neighbours and passersby rushed to her aid upon hearing the commotion. The victim filed a complaint with the police, who have registered a case.

Man commits unnatural offence with friend

A young man committed unnatural offence with his friend in the limits of Data Darbar police. According to the victim, Waqas, who works at a tea shop in the Data Darbar area, he shared a room with his friend Aamir. Waqas reported that Aamir molested him, an act that he alleged had been repeated multiple times in the past.
