NOWSHERA: The district administration has directed assistant commissioners to reassess and revise price lists for meat, milk, yogurt, and grocery items to provide relief to the public ahead of Ramazan.
“The government has assigned three assistant commissioners, Food Safety Authority officers, food controllers, and price magistrates to control artificial price hikes during Ramazan and ensure the implementation of official price lists,” said Deputy Commissioner Irfanullah Mehsud while speaking to a delegation from the Nowshera Press Club, led by its President Mushtaq Paracha and General Secretary Muhammad Shahid.
The official stated that strict action would be taken against hoarders and profiteers, while a crackdown was also planned against encroachments and land grabbers across the district. He announced that special teams had already been formed to survey markets, ensure the availability of essential food items, and take action against hoarders attempting to create artificial shortages.
Officers from relevant departments and revenue officials would be deployed in key markets of each tehsil to maintain market discipline during Ramazan.“Complaint desks will be set up in all markets before Ramazan to ensure the immediate redressal of consumer grievances. Official price lists will be displayed on billboards and banners in marketplaces,” he added.
To curb profiteering by wholesalers, assistant commissioners would oversee morning auctions for vegetables and fruits to ensure fair pricing.Three free Iftar meal distribution points will be established in each tehsil — four in Nowshera and three each in Jehangira and Pabbi — with contributions from philanthropists and the district administration.
Regarding encroachments, the deputy commissioner stated that hundreds of kanals of government land had been reclaimed from illegal occupants.“A plan has been devised to remove unauthorized structures from markets and roads to ease public movement,” he explained.
