LAHORE:Juvenile Justice and Child Rights Committee of the Lahore Bar Association Chairman Advocate Sarmad Ali has formally written a letter to the Director General of the Directorate of District Judiciary, Lahore High Court, regarding the implementation of the Juvenile Justice System Act, 2018.
Advocate Ali highlighted the lack of progress in the establishment of “Juvenile Justice Committees” across all divisions in Punjab. Despite the Act’s promulgation in May 2018, intended as a replacement for the Juvenile Justice System Ordinance, 2000, its provisions remain unimplemented in Punjab. The Act was designed to protect the interests of children in conflict with the law by offering alternative, non-penal sanctions for minor and major offenses. He urged the Directorate of District Judiciary to connect the LBA’s body with any efforts to draft the rules of business for JJSA implementation.
