Construction of additional rooms in schools ordered

Islamabad: Minister of State for the Capital Administration and Development Division Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhary on Wednesday directed the Federal Directorate of Education bosses to ensure the construction of 70 additional rooms at the Islamabad Capital Territory schools and colleges under its administrative control during the ongoing summer vacation.

He issued the directions while chairing a meeting on the Prime Minister’s Education Sector Reforms Programme, which is watched over by the prime minister’s daughter, Maryam Nawaz, through a committee comprising some MNAs and FDE officials.

The FDE schools and colleges were closed on May 31 on account of summer vacation lasting until the second week of August.

Normally, repairs and maintenance are carried out at the schools during the summer vacation.

During the meeting, the CADD minister said the Prime Minister’s Education Sector Reforms Programme was launched in view of the government’s commitment towards provision of quality education to the local residents and to make the capital’s education system a role model for the rest of the country.

He said under the programme, serious efforts were underway to improve and upgrade the existing educational facilities in the capital city.

The minister said the programme’s targets were being met in phases. Senior CADD and FDE officials were present in the meeting.
